Data retrieval from malfunctioning alphasmart?
I got caught in a torrential downpour this morning and my alphasmart 3000 got a little bit wet. I didn't think it was too bad and wiped it down with some napkins, but upon turning it on this afternoon it now does nothing but display this: http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...r/P6100001.jpg
I'm guessing the water fried something in there and I'm not too concerned with the loss of the unit itself, but I'm wondering if there's any way to retrieve the data on there since it no longer opens files or allows me to send anything. I'd like to believe that the 1's and 0's and sitting around somewhere on there but since there's no drive I'm not really sure. Is there a part that can be transferred into a working alphasmart or have I just lost 8 files worth of essential notes and contact information from three separate conferences I hadn't yet uploaded?
Help!!!
Thanks,
Kristine

Re: Data retrieval from malfunctioning alphasmart?
Hi, Kristine, welcome to Brighthand.

You may need to let it dry out thoroughly. If you are handy with removing screws (don't know if the 3000 uses Torx screws or not), it might help to open it up. Letting it sit in a bowl of dry rice might even help.
I'm not really familiar with the 3000 (I have a Neo 2) and honestly, there aren't a lot of Alphasmart users here. I'm going to suggest you seek out the collective wisdom here:

If it doesn't come back to life after drying out, I'm not sure that there's really anything that can be done. There's no memory card, as I recall, so unless you've regularly backed it up to your computer, that data is either inaccessible or just gone.
